When We Watched the Sunset

Updated: May 20

This morning was normal. I drove the kids to school and this song came on the radio about the gift and privilege of watching your kids grow. I’ve been hearing it a lot lately. I switched the station to avoid the trigger and dropped Char off. On comes Ed Sheeran, and everything feels normal, until I tune into the lyrics of the chorus. Shit. No, not right now. Stop. I drop Eli off, and the weight presses against my chest and my eyes fill with tears.

How I miss hearing her sing along to the radio next to me, with full theatrical performance, of course. Using her water bottle as a microphone. I miss joining her in harmony, and playing along with the performance act.

“And I miss the way you make me feel, and it's real

When we watched the sunset over the castle on the hill

Over the castle on the hill”
